Special effects are a sweet way to bring your productions to the next level. Although they’re subtle most of the time, they can really help move your song right along. Different kinds of swells are awesome for letting the listener know a big part, like a chorus, is about to hit, while impacts are awesome for making sure the listener is hit with as much intensity as possible when needed.

That being said, with so many special effects sample libraries on the market, it’s hard to figure out what you should spend your money on. This post, as well as the video on this page, should help point you in the right direction. Be sure to scroll down and watch if you want to hear any of these in action!

Native Instruments Rise and Hit

This one is pretty much exactly what it sounds like; a giant selection of risers and impacts that sound awesome. Whether you’re looking for a simple white noise riser, a crescendos from all sorts of orchestral percussion instruments, or something more synthetic, Rise & Hit has you covered.

Native Instruments Thrill

Thrill is perfect for anybody who needs some eerie atmospheres for their music. It sounds seriously creepy and each patch can easily be tweaked to suite your needs. It covers everything from ridiculously loud and chaotic sounding orchestral string sections, to quiet lingering atmospheres from all kinds of instruments. You can even automate the parameters to make some of your own custom risers.

Heavyocity Damage

Damage is a classic that’s been incredibly popular in the industry for years. It’s meant to be a huge percussion library full of unconventional and conventional percussion sounds. It’s got organic sounding orchestral drums, hybrid percussion sounds that sound like orchestral percussion mixed with synthetic percussion, and miscellaneous impacts from god only knows what.
